2nd February 2007

A new year, some new updates. I've taken some time out from full time unemployment to bring you the latest in the world of Banter 500. It's been a while, but somehow I've managed not to find any time at all to update. The Big News is that Andy Kelly got engaged to Lauren Morrison. Many congratulations, though that does mean that AK gets 90 points. Raging. Anyway, there is no proof - that ring could belong to anybody.

More updates shortly - these are the more boring ones.

JK - Get beaten by a girl
JK - Use seven modes of transport in one day
JK - Run with scissors
JK - Get a really bad suit
JK - Swallow a fly
JK - Be a geek

22nd October 2006

Over the past few months there have been a lot of developments. Both AK and JK have taken 6 and 3 week trips to America respectively, purely to get points for this. Bob has also been very busy, aiming for the higher challenges. Also, a couple of rule changes have been decided upon. These are as follows:

1) The deadline has been extended for another year, until New Year's Eve 2007. This will allow for more challenges to be completed, especially the international ones.
2) Only a maximum of 20 vague challenges can be completed per team. This will mean that the harder challenges will be more significant. Each team must try and do different vague challenges, in order to make this section more interesting. Though if 2 people do the same challenge, it will still count.
3) Not so much a rule, but a slight change to the structure of the site. In addition to the ticks and the crosses in the challenges pages, there will also be an "F" graphic. This will stand for "Failure", and the link will lead to a failed attempt of a challenge. If the challenge has been completed, the tick will replace the "F", but both the failed and completed challenges will remain for viewing.

And new challenges are up on the site. It's a big month for Bob. Not only has he soared into the lead, but he is also the first to break the legendary 2000 points mark. Is there a greatest man in existence?

Bob - Fly somewhere and back again in under 24 hours
Bob - Attend a London movie premiere
Bob - Make a ransom note out of newspaper clippings
Bob - Visit a crap museum
Bob - Go to a book signing: Danny Wallace
Bob - Build a sandcastle in a golf bunker

21st July 2006

Bout time I did some updates. The last set took so long that I never wanted to look at a computer again. But the suspense has really been gathered. Or perhaps not. But now is a very good time to let you know the true position of Andy Kelly. Currently the man is in America for 6 weeks. Yes that's right - 6 weeks. Why? All in the name of Banter. Getting himself broke in order to get imaginary points for something which at this stage has no prize for the winner. It really is a crazy thing just to be living your life for these so-called points. Anyway, here is a bunch of updates for him, a full list can be found on the message board. This should give a better indication of where he was before he went to America. America should mean that he takes the lead, but he has managed to loose his camera, so this may affect his points tally. It's all heating up...

AK - Go to Prague
AK - Press flowers
AK - Watch a chick flick
AK - Touch a monkey
AK - Make a cup of tea

4th May 2006

Been ages since the last update, but here it is. JK has increased his lead on Bob, and even Lee has managed to lessen the gap between him and AK by 30 points. Come on Lee!

Bob and JK - Go to Larne
Bob and JK - Get into a newspaper
JK - Have a mullet
Lee - get into a newspaper
AK - Buy something nostalgiac

30th August 2005

Further updates to the site include:a "finalised" list of challenges, a new 90 point category, and the introduction of the message board. As for the pictures, well, still no sign of them. But at least now there are over 2000 little X's to make the site look nice and pretty. The keen eyed among you will notice that despite the supposed lack of challenges completed, the home page somehow manages to have a score on them. The truth is I lied about the scores, but they closely resemble something of the truth. The long awaited pictures will hopefully be up by the end of this week. Look, web page making is extremely boring and repetitive. The prospect of making and uploading hundreds of pictures is not in my diary as being something that I am looking forward to. Slowly but surely they will appear however. Also, exciting news is afoot. At some point in the future we hope to have a place to buy Official Banter 500 t-shirts (cheers Pete Huey for the link I blatantly stole off your site). Any suggestions or things you would like to see on the t-shirts / site (eg particular photos once they are up ahem) should be sent to jonny@banter500.com I can't promise I'll do anything about it, but it's a start. That is all for now - go have fun on the message board. It's really fun I promise. It's just me on it so far - the possibility is endless.

28th August 2005

The official site is now up and running. It is still horribly incomplete, and will probably remain like that forever. But whatcha gonna do about it? Pictures and completed challenges will probably be added in the next couple of days, but I'm not going to promise anything cos I'll probably not do it. But at least now it has a web address that is easy to remember, and does not take 4 pages of paper to write out. Now is the time to go and tell all your friends about this place. It's a magical mythical land and your life won't be complete without it (that's a lie and you know it, but it's a good source of entertainment. The 4 challengers are completely addicted, and it's taken over their lives. JK even had several dreams about it, including one where someone had cut a key to his house in order to go in one day and tidy it).

As for challenges, AK got 60 points for going to Legoland. Lee and JK both agreed that he was a scumbag when they bumped into each other. Not so much bumped as Lee was driving, but pulled up and said hello doesn't quite have the same ring to it. Bob is currently over in Brighton, which is apparently a good source of points. As to which ones they are he has yet to disclose, but there is currently a lot of secrecy going on at the minute, with noone willing to tell how they have done certain tasks, or the location thereof. JK has amassed loads of points recently, by wearing leather trousers, getting a picture of him and a girl and keeping it in his wallet (many thanks to Hannah for those), and also gatecrashed a party. He is amazing. And yes I am talking about myself in the third person. Lee is useless, and is still currently last.

Email addresses for the 4 are now currently active, and can be accessed on the Contact page.
